Mother’s Day…how on earth do you celebrate the saints who raised you (or even worse, raised your siblings)? Or how do you want the people you’ve raised to celebrate you? Here are some local ideas you can try this year. It’s time to break away from what you’ve been doing for the last 20 years straight and try something new.
21 Petals Flower Farm
How about a U-pick flower farm for a memorable bouquet? Take Mom to 21 Petals Flower Farm right here in Lafayette and let her choose her own mix! If there’s no time to go picking, you can enroll Mom in their Bouquet of the Month Club! That’s right, this is the Mother’s Day gift that keeps on giving every month.
Annie’s Orchard
All right, we’re a smidge early for this one, but how about a coupon for a fresh fruit pickin’ day for Mom at Annie’s Orchard? Pick from strawberries in May, cherries and blueberries in June, peaches in August, or apples in August and September. Then, once you pick the fruit, head home together and spend time making a sweet treat to enjoy.
Bennett’s Greenhouse
Bennett’s Greenhouse promotes green therapy, and I have to say, I’m a believer. One of our family’s favorite traditions is to plant flowers for Mom on Mother’s Day. It’s nice because it takes a little more effort than buying flowers, and the flowers last longer, too. Meet at Bennet’s and pick out some of her favorites. Then, take them home to plant them and watch them grow in the weeks and years ahead. Make sure to pick out a pot she’ll love!
Painting with a Twist
I’ve talked about my love for Painting with a Twist before because it’s such a fun night out! They encourage you to sip, socialize, and of course, create something beautiful. This is perfect if you want to coordinate a fun night for a bunch of moms at once (yes, you can even do this for yourself and your girlfriends to celebrate Mother’s Day). If you’re still not going out and about, don’t worry! You can get an at-home paint kit and pour yourself a glass of your favorite wine to drink while you paint.
Lake Shore Drive-In Theater
Is Mom’s dearest wish to just sit down and relax on her big day? How about a nice movie at the drive-in theater? Lake Shore Drive-In Theater in Monticello opens on Mother’s Day weekend. Check in soon to see what shows they’ll be offering that weekend. Don’t forget the box of candy and the popcorn! (And maybe grab dinner as part of the outing so Mom doesn’t have to cook.)
Cake Bake
Got a fancy mom who likes to dress up? Get dolled up yourself and take her to the Cake Bake Shop in Carmel or Broadripple Village in Indy. Your senses will be delighted from the moment you walk through the door. Not only is the décor completely out of this world, but their food is on Oprah’s Favorite Things list. No seriously, it is. Suggestion: Get a reservation!
Indiana Dunes
Now, how about a suggestion that is the complete opposite of a fancy restaurant with cake and champagne? Get some free, fun fresh air and a little road trip in by going to the Indiana Dunes National Park. Climb the dunes and get in a workout while you’re at it. This is also a great place to take a picnic lunch. Suggestion: be sure to check their website for any potential park closures.
Grape and Grain Tours
Nothing’s better than a wine tasting or brewery tour with Mom for you older kids who can no longer get by with a coupon book full of free hugs. So, why not take Mom to Southwest Michigan for a tour? Enjoy transportation, libations, and lunch with Grape and Grain Tours. This fun experience is sure to be a memorable gift.
Brunch
Brunch is a classic, good Mother’s Day option, and you don’t even have to make it yourself. Check out Bistro 501, Fowler House, or the Skyline Club in Indy (if you’re willing to drive a bit). Any meal that Mom doesn’t have to cook herself on Mother’s Day is a win. Promise.
What are your favorite things to do for Mother’s Day? I’d love to get some ideas from your suggestions below.
