If you’re not from Indiana or the Midwest, you’ll quickly learn that hibernation isn’t just for bears. It gets downright chilly here in the winter here in Greater Lafayette! But if your people are anything like my people, sometimes the walls start closing in and you just need to get OUT! Here are some of Greater Lafayette’s best indoor play spots for kids.
Faith Community Center Oasis Park
Faith Community Center’s Oasis Park is a 5900-sq. ft. oasis-themed indoor playground open to children ages 1 to 17. It’s fun, clean and BIG! You can play for $3 per child, or you can get an annual membership. And, as a bonus, Monday nights are FREE from 5 to 8 p.m. (Though those are pretty crowded nights to go.)
Don’t forget your jumping socks (you can also buy them there for $3). You can also book Oasis Park for your next birthday party.
Location: 5572 Mercy Way
Hours: M–F, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Sat, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Sun, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
PlaySpace
If you’re in the north end of Lafayette, check out the PlaySpace at the Northend Community Center on Elmwood Ave. This spacious area is for kids ages 1 to 12, with equipment up to 15 feet high for thrills and fun for anyone who is too cold to venture outdoors.
Faith Lafayette runs this space as well as Oasis Park, so the $3 per child price remains, as does the annual membership (great if you’ll be hitting up both spots on the regular).
Location: 2000 Elmwood Ave
Hours: M–F, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Sat, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sun, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
River City Community Center
River City Community Center off of Beck Lane has a great indoor multi-level play space. Clocking in at over 500 sq. ft. it’s just enough room to run, climb and get the wiggles out, for children ages 9 and under! Bonus: it’s not hard to keep track of your little ones in the smaller space. The price is also just $1 per child. You can also book your next birthday party or private group event here.
Enjoy playing on afternoons or on Saturdays.
Location: 2842 Old U.S. 231
Hours: M–F, 12 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Sat, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Imagination Station
Perhaps you don’t have the wiggles, but you’re ready to stimulate the brain. Have you ever been to Imagination Station in downtown Lafayette? It’s a family science center open to the entire family for science, education, and exploration. It’s designed to pique children’s curiosity about science and how it impacts their lives.
Bonus: A membership gets you free admission at over 350 participating ASTC Passport Museums, zoos & science centers worldwide! Otherwise, the cost is $7 per child above 2 years old.
Location: 600 N 4th Street
Hours: M–T, Closed
W–F, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Sat, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Great United Skates
We were thrilled to learn that Great United Skates opened a family-friendly roller skating venue in Lafayette in late 2019! Get the wiggles out AND get a thigh workout at the same time! LOL.
Great United Skates offers group outings, fundraising parties, and all sorts of other events! Some days are cheap skate days, so stay on the lookout for that. Be sure to check out their schedule for all the fun. The themed skates sound like a blast for the entire family.
Location: 135 S Earl Ave
Hours: Check the schedule linked above
Home Depot
If you’ve got errands to run, swing into the Home Depot on Sagamore Parkway for a Saturday DIY Workshop with your kids! Home Depot regularly does these kids workshops, so check their website regularly for more.
Get Air and Elite Air Trampoline Parks
If you have kids with a lot of energy, why not check out one of Lafayette’s trampoline parks? Trampolines fun for little kids, teenagers, AND adults (not to mention that it’s a great workout). I can almost guarantee your kids will come home ready for a nap or bedtime if you take them here.
