It’s that time of year when it’s time to think about curb appeal for your Lafayette home! Curb appeal is one of those things that makes a lot of impact, and it doesn’t have to be expensive. Plus, if you’re thinking of selling anytime in the near future, putting some effort into your home’s curb appeal is well worth the effort.
Of course, a lot of these jobs take time and may not be exactly how you want to spend your weekend. So, here are some of my trusted recommendations for people to call.
Plant Flowers
When you’re planting flowers, I highly recommend planting ones that work well in Indiana’s climate. Perennials are the backbone of any great yard, and a little planning can give you a wow look with minimal maintenance. Here’s a complete list of perennials from Purdue, including details on what kind of conditions they like, colors, and when they flower. For gorgeous flowers, check out Bennett’s Greenhouse in Lafayette. (They’re also really helpful if you’re not sure what flowers are right for your yard.)
Power Wash Your Home’s Exterior
Power washing your home can make it look SO much better, especially if you get moss on the sides of the home (like many here do). Call Curtis Shidler at Hydro Force Exterior Power Washing—(765) 586-3533.
Figure Out the Lawn Care
There’s nothing nicer than a weed-free, freshly mowed, green lawn, but that also takes a lot of time. Plus, once you get it looking just right, you also have to maintain it. That’s not for the faint of heart. For mowing and lawn treatment, try Green Light at (765) 490-0710 or Turfmaster at (765) 474-7770. Either will have your yard in tip-top shape in no time!
Hire a Handyman
This time of year is when the snow melts, the sun comes out, and you start realizing that there are things in your home that really need some attention. Maybe you find rotting wood, loose siding, or peeling stain on your deck. What you really need is a handyman to come knock out all of those jobs that you just never seem to get do or don’t know exactly how to do. I highly recommend Jim Stout from Stout Builders at (765) 543-0723.
Mulch Your Yard
Fresh mulch is another thing that is inexpensive but makes your yard look spic and span. But who likes to go to the home improvement store and load up all that mulch into your car? It’s much better to get it delivered! Try Wrede Rocks & Mulch at (765) 471-6852.
Freshen Up the Paint
Exterior paint doesn’t last forever, especially on trim pieces like shutters. But painting the outside of your home is such a pain—who wants to paint on a tall ladder, anyway? Call Heritage Painting at (765) 413-0299 or Gibson Painting at (765) 838-1233 to take care of the job for you.
Get the Pool Ready
If you’re lucky enough to have a pool to enjoy during Indiana’s hot summers, make sure it’s clean and ready to go. Try Aquarius Pools & Spas or Burke Pool Co for all of your pool needs.
Remove Dead Trees
Nothing brings a yard down like a tree that’s dying or dead and needs removing. But tree removal is definitely best left to a professional! Jeff Clark is a fanstastic arborist, and you can reach him at (765) 413-4520.
Build or Repair a Fence
This might not be inexpensive, but fixing a fence that’s breaking down or putting up a new one can make a huge difference to how your yard looks. Call the folks at Knecht with Nature at (765) 532-9315. They’re a one-stop shop that does landscaping and hardscaping, too!
Work on a Project with the Wabash River Enhancement Corporation
The Wabash River Enhancement Corporation can help you out with native plants and improve water runoff, and they even have a cost share program that pays up to 75% of the costs for urban improvement projects including rain gardens, rain barrels, native plants, trees, green roofs, turf to prairie conversion, and other green projects. Check out more details here.
