When it comes to things to do around town, there’s no shortage of activities in Greater Lafayette. Certainly, having a Big 10 University means that we have a multitude of events throughout the year.
I’m thrilled to see the efforts of local leadership to enhance the quality of life (and to enhance local neighborhoods) through civic spaces and events—it’s something I really believe in. The newest venue in the heart of Lafayette has been years in the making: Loeb Stadium. It’s so fun to see it in all its glory!
Dedicated in 1940, this historic 3,500-seat stadium was built with donations from Bert and June Loeb. (It wasn’t officially named Loeb Stadium until 1971.) Starting in late 2019, the corner of Wallace Avenue and Main Street was completely changed when Loeb Stadium was rotated 180 degrees, with home plate near the intersection. Now, patrons of the new 2,600-capacity venue can see the backdrop featuring Tropicanoe Cove water park, the historic carousel, and the Columbian Park Zoo. It’s really a gorgeous area, and it’s a nice welcoming point for people entering Lafayette through the Five Points area as they go in to downtown.

Loeb Stadium is the home field for Lafayette Jefferson High School, a variety of IHSAA tournaments, and the Lafayette Aviators (a Prospect League team). In addition to baseball games, the mayor of Lafayette sees future opportunities for things like concerts, family movie nights, band competitions, and other community events.

The Aviators home opener was on June 1, and my client Summer and I had a blast checking out the new space (thanks to Brent and Marti for hosting)! Along with the 1,910 fixed lower-level seats, there are 2 party deck areas, 3 outdoor and 3 indoor suites, and a 2,000-square-foot press box. Fans can also enjoy the game from the lawn terrace or the outfield!
Thinking about taking in some fresh air and excellent baseball this summer? Check the schedule here and get over there!
