Since I’m sharing my headshots for my entire real estate career in this graphic, I thought I’d also share 10 things about me that you might not know. Let’s see if I can surprise you.
- In college I studied Broadcast Journalism (BA in Telecommunications) at Ball State University. I met my husband putting together the Ball State student newscast, NewsCenter43. I live out this vocation vicariously through him. You can see him on WTHR, Channel 13, out of Indianapolis.
- Right after graduation from Ball State, I had the opportunity of a lifetime. I got to spend 12 days in Shanghai, China, shooting a documentary for Nightlight. Working on a project at the network level was absolutely eye-opening. We were revisiting a project one of my college professors did 30 years earlier about China with his best friend, Ted Koppel. Fun fact: We took 42 pieces of luggage (gear). Nowadays, that would be laughable.
- I’m royalty! LOL. My junior year at Ball State, I was selected to be an Indy 500 Princess—one of 33 collegians representing the greatest spectacle in racing. We did public speaking engagements and had an absolute blast. Riding around the track on race day was the thrill of a lifetime. The following year, I was the PR intern for 500 Festival. I got to see an entirely different side of the organization.
- I’m an Alpha Chi Omega! (Gamma Mu-holla!) I met some of the greatest girls through this organization. I served as the vice president of communications. Shocker, I know.
- I believe there is one proper way to fold towels. Beach towels one way, bath towels another. Honestly, ask my college roommate (who gave this suggestion for this list). I blame my dad. He attended West Point, so we Russell kids had no chance. And now, bless my husband.
- I’ve been selling real estate for 16 years in 3 different parts of Indiana. They include South Bend-Mishawaka, Indianapolis-Fishers, Lafayette-West Lafayette. I swore I would never be a Realtor after growing up in the limelight of my mom, the famous Cathy Russell. But after spending a year as her marketing director, I realized I could do it, too. In December of 2004, I took the test and . . . I failed it. (Because math.) I retook it 2 days later, and the rest is history!
- My husband and I have bought and sold 8 homes. As in personal residences, not investment properties. No joke. The last one was in mid-October, and though I’ve never said never, I’m saying it now. I can’t do it again. Mark my words, friends. Use this blog post as a reference.
- You may or may not know that my husband and I have three kids. They were born in 3 different cities (see #6), but two were born at the same hospital. Who can figure out this riddle?
- I love jazz music. I mean, LOVE it. I’m not an expert on it, but I just love the variation within jazz . . . upbeat, chill, sophisticated, unpredictable. It moves me. Except the jazz flute. I do not love the jazz flute. Whose idea was that?
- Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. I love anything outdoors (hiking, camping, football) and campfires with a cold beer. Speaking of which, did you know I co-own a brewery with my brother and our spouses? I know precious little about beer (ask any of our staff), but I’m a super snob when it comes to West Coast IPAs (NKOTH, yes!)
Thanks for taking the time to read a little bit more about your favorite Realtor!
