You don\u2019t have to go very far to get into\nthe holiday spirit. There are plenty of fun activities for the whole family\nright here in Greater Lafayette! Here are a few of my family\u2019s favorites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McCord\u2019s Candy Cane Tour<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019ve\nnever taken a candy cane tour at McCord Candies<\/a>, make this year\nthe year you do it. It\u2019s a fun, festive experience that begins in mid-November\neach year. It\u2019s so much fun to watch old-fashioned candy canes being made right\nin front of you! These tours are open to the public on Fridays from 5:30 to\n8:30 p.m., Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Sundays from 12 p.m. to 6\np.m. You can also call them if you\u2019re interested in a reservation for a large\ngroup. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cassens Trees<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Are you a real or a fake? I mean, when it\ncomes to trees. We had a blast last year when we trekked through the rows of\nbeautiful trees at Cassens Tree Farm<\/a> on Morehouse Road.\nThe snow was falling, and it was quite a festive experience, even with our\nfrozen fingers and toes. Cassens Trees grows Fraser, Canaan, Douglas, and\nConcolor fir trees, as well as Scotch and White Pine trees. They are also a\nthree-time winner of the Indiana Grand Champion Tree, so you know their trees\nare quality! (In my experience, they really do hold up very well throughout the\nmonth of December if you care for them properly.)<\/p>\n\n\n

Lafayette\nNoon Optimist Club Trees<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If traipsing around a Christmas tree farm\nisn\u2019t your idea of fun, I can\u2019t say I blame you. Luckily, you can grab one from\nthe Lafayette Noon Optimist Club in the parking lot of the Frozen Custard store\non Main Street in Lafayette. You\u2019re not just getting a tree but are also doing\nsomething to help the community; proceeds from the sale go to children and\ncommunity programs in our area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faith\nEast Nativity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Since the early 1990s, Faith East in Lafayette<\/a> has\nutilized tons of volunteers (both the two-legged and the four-legged) to put on\na living nativity. It\u2019s truly an epic event\u2014a beautiful Biblical account with\n14 life-sized scenes surrounding Jesus\u2019s life here on earth. You can opt to\nwalk through or drive through the nativity, and there\u2019s audio narration for\neach scene (you tune into your car\u2019s radio to listen). Insider tip: the first\nfew days of the nativity production are far less crowded than the last few.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Calvin Contrell Display at\nOaklawn Acres<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m cheating a bit here because this\nisn\u2019t in Lafayette, but after the nativity at Faith, head over towards\nRossville for the annual Calvin Contrell display at Oaklawn Acres<\/a>! It\u2019s so cool to see what one family does to bring holiday joy to\npeople of all ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PMO Christmas Show at Purdue<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The PMO\nChristmas Show<\/a> (in its 86th<\/sup> production this\nyear!) is always a treat for the whole family, but be sure to get your tickets\nsoon! They do sell out, and you don\u2019t want to miss this magical event,\nespecially if you haven\u2019t been to it before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Purdue Christmas Show<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Don’t miss the classic Purdue Christmas Show<\/a>, now in its 92nd year (wow)! There are three shows between December 6th and December 7th at the Elliott Hall of Music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Polar Express<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Who doesn\u2019t love the classic Polar\nExpress<\/em> movie? There\u2019s no better way to get into the holiday spirit with\nyour kids. There\u2019s a free showing at the Long Center<\/a>, but there are no\nadvanced tickets, so you\u2019ll have to get there early to get a seat. Doors open\nat 1 p.m. for the 2 p.m. showing. Children are invited to wear their pajamas,\nand hot chocolate and snacks will be for sale at the concessions stand. Word is\nthat they might just also get to meet the conductor of the train himself!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lafayette Christmas Parade<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

December 6th<\/sup> is a busy day, because it\u2019s also the day of the Lafayette Christmas Parade<\/a> downtown! Join the community for a lighted Christmas parade on Main Street from 11th<\/sup> to 2nd<\/sup> Streets from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hahn Mansion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Have you ever visited the Hahn Mansion\nnear the top of 9th<\/sup> Street Hill? Christmas at the Hahn<\/a> Mansion is\nthe time to go because the exhibits are so wonderful. You\u2019ll love the trains\nmoving from room to room and the six-foot nutcrackers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lighting the Luminaria<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A decades-old tradition takes place each\nyear on the same hill\u2014the\nlighting of the luminaria<\/a>. This is a sight\nto behold on Christmas Eve, right before you return to nestle into your beds\nfor the night. You can also see these beautiful lights on the weekend before\nChristmas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
