All right, here\u2019s the\ndeal. I hate shopping. Like, I loathe<\/em> it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That said, there are\ntwo reasons I\u2019ll endure it. 1) To support small business owners in their\npassion to make our community better through entrepreneurship and 2) to get a\ntruly unique gift or experience for someone this holiday season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, a heads up that\nShop Small Saturday is just a few days away, on November 30th<\/sup>, and I\nhighly encourage you to get out and do some shopping at these or other local\nstores. It makes a huge difference to these small businesses. Trust me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, if I have to\nventure out (and I do), here are some of my favorite options right here in the\nLafayette area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Wild Bird\nShoppe<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

 Starting in West\nLafayette, head out on Kalberer Road to The\nWild Bird Shoppe<\/a>! Find some unique\ngift for the nature lovers in your life. They specialize in products for those\nwho love birds, like bird feeders and birdbaths. The store also has seed\ndelivery and maintenance plans for feeders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, my son, Jack,\nalways loved watching the store\u2019s train drive around the store when he was\nlittle. (The train\u2019s name is Will E. Waddle.) And you sit on the indoor porch\nswing and watch birds hop and play outside the window! It\u2019s a fun wintertime\nactivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gretel\u2019s Fine Gifts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While you\u2019re in the area, check out Gretel\u2019s Fine Gifts<\/a>. Gretel\u2019s is a\ndelightful little store that leans toward the quirky and creative. Gretel\u2019s\ntruly has a reputation for one-of-a-kind gifts, including items for kids, home\nd\u00e9cor, and beautiful pieces for your outdoor space. If you want to find the\ngift for the person who has everything, this is the place to go. If you just\nwant a shopping adventure, this is also the place to go!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KitchenArt: The Store for Cooks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Have you been to KitchenArt<\/a>?\nIt\u2019s right next to Gretel\u2019s, so if you haven\u2019t stopped in, put it on your list.\nThis is the best stop in town for gourmet kitchenware and specialty food items\nthat aren\u2019t available at the grocery store. If you\u2019re not sure what to get, a\ngift certificate is a good choice. KitchenArt is also the home to many popular\ncooking classes on a variety of subjects, which could be a fun gift for the\nburgeoning cook in your life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Feet Fleet<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Got an athlete in the\nhouse? There are some great finds (not just shoes) at Fleet Feet<\/a> in West Lafayette. You can\u2019t replace the knowledge of employees\nat a local athletics store for getting exactly what you need. The employees at\nFleet Feet are dedicated to finding the perfect fit<\/a>. You can\u2019t get that service at a department store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mad Love Boutique<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I love clothes, but I\nhate looking like everyone else. Fortunately, we have some awesome, local\nboutiques here in town! One of my favorites is Mad\nLove Boutique<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mad Love specializes\nin unique clothing and jewelry for women of all sizes. The owner, Stephanie,\nalso offers personalized styling services if you or someone you love needs a\nlittle help (you can also get some great inspiration from the Facebook page).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Farmer\u2019s Wife<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Farmer\u2019s Wife<\/a>\nwas an exclusively online gig that is now a brick and mortar store! Owners Alivia\nand Reagan have curated a fantastic collection of comfortable, unique, and\naffordable pieces. Now that can be hard to find! I guarantee you\u2019ll find\nsomething you love at this store, for both yourself and the person you\u2019re\nbuying a gift for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dawson & Daisy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dawson\n& Daisy<\/a> is a cute little boutique next to campus. If you want a\ntop with words on it (men too!) this is the place to go. They also have comfy leggings\nand sweats and plenty of game-day gear. Boiler up! Dawson & Daisy also just\nopened up a beauty bar, so you can have a luxury salon experience at an\naffordable price (or gift a luxury salon experience). Friends and family can\nalso make a wish list online so you know exactly what to pick out for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bloom Kids\nCollection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you haven\u2019t been to\nBloom Kids Collection<\/a> downtown, you need to get yourrself over there. Oh my land,\ntheir stuff is precious! I almost had another child just so I could shop here.\nThey have every item you could possibly want for a stylish baby or kid. They\nalso have a fun selection of toys and books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scout Lafayette<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Looking for some\nunique items for your home? Scout<\/a> has vintage furniture and other interesting pieces. The owner\nmakes it a point to say that she never sells anything that she wouldn\u2019t put in\nher own home, so you know that the quality is there. She also has home furnishings\nfrom other small business all over the U.S. I also love the selection of plants.\nEvery home can use another plant (or two or three).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two Tulips<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Two Tulips is the place\nin town for personalized items, including hand-painted piggy banks, ceramic\ngifts, ornaments, frames, custom stationery, note cards, clothing, accessories,\nand more. If you\u2019re looking for something that can be personalized, you\u2019re\nlikely to find it here. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Artists\u2019 Own<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t pass up one of\nthe coolest cooperatives in Lafayette! Artists\u2019\nOwn<\/a> is an artist cooperative with members from the\nLafayette area. They work in a wide variety of mediums\u2014you\u2019ll see painting,\nfurniture, pottery, sculpture, glass, drawing, photography, and more. This is\nthe place to find the perfect artwork for a loved one\u2019s home or office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kathy\u2019s Kandies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve talked a lot about things you can wear and things you\ncan display, but how about things you can EAT? Kathy\u2019s Kandies<\/a> is all\nabout sharing Kathy\u2019s delicious chooclate with the world\u2014she\u2019s well known for\nher peanut butter cups, turtles, toffee, peppermint bark . . . well, you get\nthe idea. Come check out the huge variety of candy and pastries in her shop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brokerage Brewing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m totally partial (ahem!),\nbut Brokerage Brewing<\/a> really does have some of the best beer in town. Our beer is\nconsistent but creative, meaning that we have a number of diverse flagship beers\nthat are always available, but we also have seasonal and innovative concoctions\nfor sale, as well. We also have some fun brokerage swag! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Richelle in a Handbasket<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Richelle\nin a Handbasket<\/a> is the place for\ntruffles. There is every kind of truffle you could want here, and they are all\ndelightful. Word on the street is that she is now delving into delicious\ncheesecakes, as well. Richelle is especially good at helping assemble gift\nbaskets for any occasion, so be sure to ask for help putting one together the\nperfect combination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your Stillness<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You know what people often need after the holidays?\nStillness. The holidays are crazy, and it\u2019s smart to build in some time to\nunwind in January. Book a class for a friend or family member with our friends\nat Your Stillness<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holden Pharmacy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m cheating a bit\nhere because this one is in Frankfort, but yes, I\u2019m serious. There are some GREAT\nstocking stuffers at Holden Pharmacy<\/a>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Browns Accents <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve also head great\nthings about Browns Accents<\/a> in Attica. This is the place to shop for beautiful farmhouse\nhome d\u00e9cor, antiques, and a wide selection of candles. Their mason jar candles\nare so cute! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Big Bearded Coffee<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you don\u2019t feel like\ngoing out but you still want to support a local business, some of the very best\ncoffee in town is roasted by our dear friends at Big\nBearded Coffee<\/a>. It truly is the\nfreshest coffee you\u2019ll ever taste. So, buy online, and be sure to set up\nautomated re-orders!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
