I wanted to write up a quick blog from my notes. One of our keynotes \u201cThe Climb to Authority\u201d by Neal Oates Jr REALLY struck a chord with me, so I thought I\u2019d share my recap with you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Becoming a Trusted Real Estate Authority: It Starts With Your Story<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When people think about becoming the go-to real estate professional in their market, they often start with credentials, sales stats, or marketing tactics. Those things are important, but they\u2019re not what&nbsp;<em>builds trust<\/em>. What truly creates authority in real estate\u2014and in any service-based business\u2014is your&nbsp;<em>personal story<\/em>. It&#8217;s your lived experiences, your connections to the community, and the way you show up consistently as yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Real estate isn\u2019t just about houses. It\u2019s about&nbsp;<em>people<\/em>. And people hire people they like, trust, and feel they genuinely know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Authority Is Recognized Leadership. Competence Keeps You Employed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Authority is\u00a0<em>recognized leadership<\/em>. It gets you hired. It\u2019s what positions you as the go-to expert in your market: the person people look to for answers, guidance, and confidence. But once you\u2019re hired, it\u2019s your\u00a0<em>competence<\/em>\u00a0that keeps you there. Your skill, responsiveness, and follow-through are what sustain your reputation and keep clients coming back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It all comes down to the&nbsp;<em>sequence of connection<\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Like you \u2192 Trust you \u2192 Know you \u2192 Hire you \u2192 Pay you \u2192 Refer you<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Too often, Realtors try to shortcut the process. They lead with the \u201cHire me!\u201d message before anyone even knows who they are. Or they focus on getting paid before building a relationship. It\u2019s backwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we skip over the early steps such as likeability, trust, and familiarity, we lose out on the foundation that sustains a long, referral-based business. The truth is, clients want to feel connected to their Realtor. They want to know they\u2019re in good hands. They want someone who understands\u00a0<em>them<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Be a Key Person of Influence<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In today\u2019s noisy real estate world, being&nbsp;<em>visible<\/em>&nbsp;is not enough. You need to be&nbsp;<em>valuable<\/em>. That means consistently showing up with helpful insights, personal perspective, and local knowledge. Not just about the market\u2014but about life here in our community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ask yourself:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Are you sharing stories that show who you are?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are you speaking in a way that builds trust and connection?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are you making it easy for someone to\u00a0<em>like you<\/em>\u00a0before you ask them to\u00a0<em>hire you<\/em>?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Realtors who succeed long-term aren\u2019t just chasing the next deal. They\u2019re building a personal brand rooted in influence, service, and leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Build Relationships, Not Just a Pipeline<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019ve learned over the years that when people feel like they\u00a0<em>know<\/em>\u00a0me, when they see the person behind the \u201cRealtor\u201d title, that\u2019s when business really starts to grow. The referrals come in. The repeat clients show up. The conversations change from \u201cCan you help me buy a house?\u201d to \u201cWe trust you to guide us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s the power of doing things in the right order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Final Thought: Lead With Connection<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you&#8217;re a Realtor (or really any service professional) trying to grow your business, don\u2019t underestimate the steps that seem \u201csoft.\u201d Likeability and trust are not optional. They\u2019re everything. Your authority will come from your story, your experiences, and the way you make people\u00a0<em>feel<\/em>, not just what you say you can do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, take the time to share more than just listings. Share your\u00a0<em>why<\/em>. Show up with warmth, honesty, and value.
